Is your child is stuck in a vicious cycle of failure?
Are they failing a class, several classes? Failing to keep their backpack organized? Failing to turn in their work? Failing to brush their teeth most nights? Failing to "launch" in general?
In this week's Vlog, I summarize three of the most powerful take-aways that I got from Michael Delman M Ed. in his workshop where he shares the stories and tools from his new book - Your Kid's Gonna Be OK: A Guide to Raising a Competent and Confident Child.
Michael is a seasoned Executive Function coach, Author, and CEO of Beyond BookSmart, an executive skills coaching company that's based on the Transtheoretical Model (TTM), also known as the Stages of Change.
If you're like me and enjoy diving into the theory and science behind these core concepts, I recommend exploring TTM. It's a very holistic approach to understanding behavior.
For a quick summary of these concepts and for a practical way to apply this theory in your home with your child, check out the video above.
P.S., At the end of the video, I share my biggest take-away from Michael's presentation, the first step that every single (effective) coach takes before practicing any of these skills. Don't miss it!
P.P.S., Here's an actual text exchange with a 10th grade student to give you insight on exactly how I guide my students to set intentions, prepare for action, and execute their tasks. This process takes lots of little steps, practiced over a long period of time, with lots of patience and gentle guidance.
