MindFull Minute #3: The Elephant In the Room [VLOG]

July 7, 2019

Dear parents,

I've had the benefit of observing, interviewing, and consulting  thousands of families as an academic and executive function coach over the course of the last decade.

The model I review in this video is one that I developed after observing how countless families react to common problems that come up when their child has executive functioning issues.

Here are some of the most common issues that kids who struggle with executive functioning experience:

  • Lack of patience

  • Impulsivity; hyperactivity

  • Dishonesty

  • Unable to follow directions

  • Easily distracted

  • Easily frustrated

  • Dramatic; overreacts when something doesn’t go their way

  • Argumentative, defiant

  • Unable to complete difficult or boring tasks

  • Unable to deal with setbacks or failure

  • Lack of confidence

  • Difficulty maintaining positive relationships

  • Too much time on media

  • Procrastinating on homework or projects

  • Losing important items routinely

These are very real, very challenging issues that kids need consistent guidance to overcome. But how do you help your child if they are resistant to your support? What if every conversation becomes a battle?

Very often, parents feel like they are choosing between confronting their child's behavior (causing conflict), or avoiding the issue (keeping the peace). That's when the problem becomes the elephant in the room.

The solution to many of these problems is not a particular solution, but a system that allows parents to address problems in a functional way.

Check out the video to learn my step-by-step approach to solving your toughest challenges while fostering a high-quality relationship with your child.

I promise that if you take even the tiniest steps forward with this knowledge, you will make meaningful progress toward what matters most - creating a high-quality relationship with your child that nurtures their Executive Function skills.

Sincerely,

Yulia
